SPAY/NEUTER PROGRAM
The Humane Society’s first and foremost goal is to reduce pet overpopulation in our county, which leads to the homeless pet problem and the unfortunate euthanizing of healthy companion animals.
In working toward this goal, the HSCC will subsidize the spay/neuter of unaltered dogs and cats in our county for up to 75% of the cost of the spay/neuter, depending on your financial need. The current cost offered to the Humane Society by area vets for the spay/neuter for dogs is $45.00 to $65.00+ for males and $55.00 to $70.00+ for females, depending on the pet’s weight. This means you could possibly get a small male dog neutered for as little as $11.25 or a small female dog spayed for as little as $13.75, depending on your financial need. Our vet cost for cats is $27.50 for males and $55.00 for females.
If you are a Coleman County resident and you have a dog or a cat that has not been spayed or neutered, please call the Humane Society (625-4724) for an application for funding. The applications can also be picked up at the Block One Flea Market in Coleman, at the Santa Anna City Hall, or at the Community Bulletin Board at the Shoppin’ Baskit.
To be eligible for the greatest discount (up to 75%), you will need to attach a copy of a food stamp card, SSI, a Medicaid card or evidence that you live in government housing to verify your low income status.
We also offer up to three spay/neuters each month on a first come/first served basis regardless of financial need. If more than three applications are received in a month, three will be selected in a random drawing and the rest will be first in line for the next month. If no government assistance documentation is attached to your application, you will be asked to pay 50% of the cost.
If you adopt an adult dog (one old enough to be spayed or neutered) from the City of Coleman pound or the Santa Anna shelter, the Humane Society will pay 100% of the cost of the spay or neuter. Please call us (625-4724) for details on how to receive this benefit.
